Yangrima School Exchange Program (YSEP)
Tim Kruger came to the Yangrima School as a GAP year student in 1993 from Wellington College, U.K. After returning to England, he informed the students and teachers at Wellington College about Helambu and Yangrima School. This led to the first group of Wellington Students arriving for a 14-day trip in Nepal. They were joined by a group of Yangrima Students to the Annapurna Base camp in 1997. We (Yangrima School) organized all logistics (all meals, accommodation, internal transport, guide, porters, permits etc) in Nepal and the Wellington college bought the International Tickets and Insurance.
This project included a community service project in Helambu and was very successful. Students and teachers from Wellington College have been coming to Nepal regularly. The last time they arrived was in Easter 2023. See the report here.
Word spread quickly and we started receiving Adult learners from Brenderup Folkhigh School and Skals Afterskoler -both in Denmark. The last time Skals Afterskoler came to Helambu was Easter 2023.
We have also received groups from Canada (St. John’s Kilmarnock School), USA (Catlin Gabel School) etc.
We registered a Trekking Company ‘Just Nepal Trekking Pvt. Ltd’ in 2015 as a social enterprise in Nepal. All our tours are operated under the auspices of this Social Business.
